Alma Migens (she/her) is a WASH technical expert specialized in innovative human-centred design and behaviour change in WASH with extensive experience in community engagement, gender and inclusion. By leading innovation projects and multi-country efforts as WASH advisor, co-chairing the public health promotion and technical WASH working group, contributing to multi-agency initiatives, and supporting large field team’s emergency responses, Alma has built a strong technical capacity and practical experience. Effectively, she has designed and implemented WASH and public health emergency responses in humanitarian crises, longer-term sustainable strategies, programs for recovery and development contexts, sector-specific technical guidelines, and standard operation procedures. Notably, she specialises in behaviour change, gender, protection and inclusive water supply and sanitation. For example, she contributed to the “Community Health Promotion Strategy for the Syrian Crisis in Lebanon 2017-2020”, the “Social Architecture project, a women-led sanitation facilities design approach”, and “Barriers and enablers for hygiene behaviour change analysis in schools in South Caucasus”. Having a strong interest in innovation and social research, she also developed several play and arts-based activities and data collection tools for the inclusion of children, girls and women in decision-making. Notably, she led Oxfam’s feminist transformation in Bangladesh by empowering local women’s participation in leadership roles. Alma has experience in South-East Asia, including Bangladesh and the Philippines, Africa, including the Sahara Region and Tanzania, and the MENA region, including Lebanon, Syria and oPt. These experiences allowed her to lead social research and to work with several specialised INGOs and the WASH cluster. Alma is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
